2D Shapes

Year 1 have been busy learning all about 2D shapes!

Here are a few things we have been learning about:

  • vertical lines (up and down)
  • horizontal lines (across)
  • parallel lines (they are the same distance apart – they will never touch)
  • 2D shapes have two dimensions – they have no thickness
  • sides are the lines that make a 2D shape
  • a vertex refers to the point where two straight sides of a 2D shape meet
  • quadrilaterals are shapes with four sides (e.g. squares and rectangles)

Take a look at our great learning!

Look around your house – can you see any shapes?

Leave a comment and tell us what your favourite shape is. Include how many sides and vertices it has.
